Light up the Front Driveway & Garden. Intruders work best in darkness, illuminating the garden when dark is a good way to deter them. The most effective option is motion-activated security lights, which can be installed at the front & back of the property.
Install a visual Intruder Alarm. Having an intruder alarm installed will deter intruders. Some insurance providers also offer discount on approved alarms for example, companies like ourselves who are SSAIB registered.
It’s worth checking with your provider if this is something that they offer.
Install a CCTV System.
Intruders are less likely to attempt to burgle your property if you have CCTV installed as they are running the risk of being caught.
Increase gate and fence security.
We recommend that a garden gate is the same height as the adjoining walls or fences and securely constructed. Make sure all of your fences are in good condition, damaged panels could allow thieves to scope out the area and even gain access. If you have a garden gate, ensure that the hinges, bold and padlock are secured.
Keep your valuables out of sight.
Keep your valuables out of sight or locked away when you’re not using them. Invest in a safe to store your most important belongings.
Ensure things such as car keys are not in line of sight of the door, especially at night.
Look like you’re home, even when you’re not.
Empty homes are more likely to be targeted by thieves, so it’s a good idea to make your home look as if it’s occupied whilst you’re out.
Leaving a light on can deter a criminal, things such as smart lights are a great idea.
Going on Holiday? If you’re going on holiday, ensure your Intruder Alarm & CCTV is in full working order prior to leaving.
Always double check the doors & Windows to ensure they are secure & be sure not to post on social media.
Leaving a key with someone who you trust is also a good idea, allowing them to check on the property whilst you’re away.
